As the music specialist in my school, I teach 340 students spanning pre-k through fifth grade. Many of my students are English language learners and over three quarters of the student population falls into the low-income category.
My students are creative and have so much to offer; they should be provided with the tools to express themselves.
The music program at this school is fairly new, and any addition of instruments would greatly enhance the program. These students deserve some new supplies to create with!
This year we are building up our Orff instrumentarium ! Orff instruments are high quality barred instruments that students can use to learn about basslines, ostinatos, melodies, and other elements of music . So far we have three instruments, which in classes of 24 students can be frustrating to share.
We make it work, but my students would be SO excited to be able to play a bass xylophone (the biggest one)!
When my students are given the opportunity to perform on high quality instruments they get inspired and their creativity really shines through. More instruments means a higher impact on my students’ music education.
