A number of "budding" rock stars (aka students) come before school once a week to rehearse for my "School of Rock" program. The group consists of guitarists, pianists, bassists, drummers, and vocalists, and the kids have a blast playing rock songs that they also perform in our winter and spring concerts. This past year they played music by The Who, Tom Petty, and Bob Seger. The group consists of 2nd through 5th graders, some of who have been in it multiple years, and others who join even if they are in fifth grade; new members are always welcome!
My students are from a multitude of countries and ethnic backgrounds.
Our school is considered high poverty, but it is a neighborhood elementary school, where students come to learn in a safe environment and even work on their "character strengths" such as generosity, gratitude, and courage. When they come together as a group of musicians, our diverse population creates incredible vocal performances and concerts, plays drums and other instruments very well, and connects what they learn in music class to their own classroom as well as life and culture outside the walls of the school.
Our school's rock band consists of guitarists, keyboard players, bassists, drummers, and singers that meet once a week to learn how to rock n' roll! They work hard at school and practice at home to learn the songs, and they perform in two concerts a year.
My rock band needs a student size bass for budding bass players!
I need a bass guitar that is sized and suited for an elementary school student that can add a solid bass line to a performance. Many bass guitars have longer necks that are comfortable for older students and adults to reach, however a "short-scale" bass guitar is what my students need.
