My students need a 3/4 double bass to be shared by our orchestra students, in addition to a bass rack to protect this investment, as they are currently stored on the floor.
We are a lottery based, non-profit K-12 charter school located in the Greater Charlotte area. We are committed to providing an inclusive and rigorous fine arts education for our students. Our orchestra program offers small group lessons at the elementary school level, and large group orchestra instruction to children in grades 4-12. Dedicated middle and high school students have 45 minutes of orchestra every school day, and our program is growing in both ability and in enrollment every year. We collaborate with our theater department for musicals, provide performances for community events, and our students are involved in Regional and Youth Orchestra programs across the state.
My Project
As our orchestra program grows, we find ourselves in desperate need of an additional 3/4 sized bass. Without it, our students will have to take turns performing in our concerts and within the class setting. An additional bass would allow all of our bass students to perform together. Basses are very expensive to purchase or rent, and their large size prevents students from transporting them from school to home. The basses are a shared asset, and available to all students to practice on, before and after the typical school day. Currently, our two basses are stored on the floor of our music room, potentially leading to damage and costly repairs. A bass rack would protect our investment, and keep the instruments in good condition.

Our students would care for and cherish a new, quality instrument that would be utilized for years to come. It will perform in symphonic concerts, musical pit orchestras, and pops and modern musical performances in our school.
