My students need a double bass! We simplified our orchestra for the first year, only offering violin and cello. Now we are ready to move on to the bass, too!
One of my students received a violin for Christmas and wanted to learn how to play. She brought it in before school and I started showing her some of the basics. More and more students started trickling in to see what was happening...
So, we started an after-school orchestra club!
The string ensemble consists of hardworking students from grades 5 to 12. Being a club, we meet entirely outside of school hours. Many students even show up at 6:30am for practice! That's dedication!
We started learning violin and cello this year, and we have come a long way. We even had 2 students earn gold and 4 earn silver at solo ensembles!
My Project
Our orchestra is growing! We started with violins and cellos, but we need to add the double bass to balance out the ensemble! We have talented cello students who are ready to take on the challenge.
We could use help purchasing a 1/2 size bass and a 3/4 size bass (with German bows and rosin) because they are substantially more expensive than cellos.
Local music stores don't even rent them out!
To make it possible for students to practice and learn the bass (and to complete our ensemble), we would like to have the instruments permanently available at our school.
