Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my school are some of the best individuals I have the pleasure of knowing. We are part of a large, underfunded urban school district with students who face a variety of challenges academically and at home.
These kids care about others, take pride in their learning, have some very positive outlooks on life, and are incredibly creative.
My school has a wonderfully high attendance rating because our children enjoy coming to school and being with us. We work to make the school a positive and familial environment amidst the very urban environment. We are surrounded by the noise of a train yard, airport, and heavily trafficked streets, yet our kids make beautiful music while together.
My Project
Our band program is small and growing. The program is not funded by the district, nor do we have many school instruments. This makes it very difficult for young students and their parents to join. We lose students every year to the struggle of affording instruments. Our brass section is especially small due to the cost of renting or buying a trombone.
This trombone will bring music to a child who otherwise would not be able to play with the band.
It is such a terrible thing to first see the wonder and excitement of a child play an instrument for the first time and then watch that same child deflate and quit band before they are able to begin due to a "lack of funds." Please help us make music a lifelong journey and reach as many students as possible
