Alien Spaceship Rock

Help me give my students rock samples (Frey) to study, and materials to build a paper circuit (Copper Coil) in which a (CR2032) powered spaceship with blinking lights (DiCUNO) and thrust (SMD) flies in a galaxy (Color Swell).

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Majority of my students' families are immigrate, and English is their second language. Despite the fact that English is their second language, they are able to confidently read texts that are at their levels and work hard to make the next level. Even though the students struggle in mastering their core subject contents, they come to school with a mindset of growth. Besides learning the basic subjects, my students are learning how to be a better person by communicating clearly and positively with each other, showing kindness to others, and respecting other people's choices.

My 7th grade students are full of energy, have a strong desire to learn and succeed, and they are excited when I say, "Let's move on to Science." My students will patiently watch videos, read articles, and play interactive games online, but they are eager to start the lab in which they can handle instruments and materials.

I am hoping to setup more labs for my students so they can take advantage of the hands-on experience that they lack to gain in-depth knowledge of various scientific principles.

My Project

The students pretend to be aliens who come to Earth from a different galaxy to learn about the characteristics of a living organism. Since the journey is fairly long, it requires a reliable spaceship with powerful thrust, and is installed with colorful blinking lights that symbolize friendship. The simulating thrust and lights are connected in parallel circuitries using copper strips. After landing on the Earth's crust, they make observations of a car and argue whether it is a living organism or not. Before returning home, they gather a few rock samples for further study of the Earth's composition.

The materials that are needed for this project will make the story come alive, and at the same time, the hands-on activities such as painting a galaxy with water colors, designing a spaceship with electrical devices, and studying rocks with real samples will intrigue the students to learn more about arts, Life and Earth Science, and Physics.

Furthermore, the students will learn an ample of academic vocabulary words as they constructing viable arguments, building circuits, and studying sedimentary, igeneous, and metamorphic rocks.
