This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a large urban city. My students attend a very small junior high which is unique to this large school system. Our school contains six classrooms. The average class size is 22.

The size of the school creates a family like atmosphere at this junior high.

We really subscribe to the "it takes a village" motto. All special education students are in the classrooms with support from their special education teacher.

I wish everyone could experience our hidden gem of a school.

My Project

My school offers an algebra class. This occurs before the regular school day begins!! There is an exit exam in June. My district allows anyone who passes this exam to receive high school credit for this algebra class. The teacher must have taken the appropriate classes and pass an exam in order to teach middle school students algebra. I want to give my students every opportunity to pass that test in June and receive credit. The district pass rate is 38%. This is a my first year teaching algebra to 8th graders and I want to surpass the district rate!! Not having graphing calculators is slowing us down.
