Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences and a chance to become leaders in the classroom. My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous. They love to share out ideas and answers and many enjoy the chance to display their mathematical thinking on the white board. They love the attention!
Together, as a classroom community, I hope to continue to get my students to value each other's worth and unique perspectives by creating healthy communication and collaboration each and every day.
My Project
Having 6 whiteboard easels in the classroom will allow my students a different approach to collaborate. These boards will promote more engagement, discovery, communication and teamwork. Students will be able to take charge of their own learning, as well as be able to teach others. My hope is to help them see the beauty of teaching and learning.
The boards will foster a creative approach to presentation of their math skills while incorporating skills to solve real-world problems.
My students often lack the confidence to present, so only having to share out to a small group will help take a step in the right direction to presenting to the entire class!
