Help me give my students pencils, highlighters, markers, expo pens, whiteboards, graph post its, privacy boards, trigonometry workbooks and games. Additionally, help me deliver modern lessons to students with the rocketbook smart notebook, frixion pens and Apple TV.
My students come from different backgrounds and lack the financial stability to bring the proper supplies. I like my students to be confident and understand Algebra using the proper materials; in this case they need access to visual aids.
Our school is located in a rural-suburban portion of East Contra Costa County.
The local setting also underscores the challenge of serving both rural and suburban communities. In our school many students receive free and or reduced meals. Students are constantly battling their environment. In our small town, families are losing their homes and dealing with financial hardships. Students in my class are taking Algebra 2 which is an a-g college course. Students range from 10th-12th grade. Algebra 2 is a rigorous and visual class. On average, there are 36 students per class with different learning needs.
My Project
With this project, I will provide students with whiteboards and expo pens so they can show me their understanding. Using my phone, I plan to project their work remotely on the big screen using the apple TV and promote discourse in the classroom, encouraging the work and perseverance that it took to get the answer. I will also model and project my teacher notes by using the rocketbook smart notebook and frixion pens and highlighters. They are all erasable, which promotes a growth mindset. I will also use the QR codes imbedded in the smart notebook and share my work online for absent or students with learning disabilities that need copies of my work. My students come to class unprepared and I would like to provide them with pencils, highlighters, and graph posts-it to take beautiful notes of their work. My students make posters of their thinking in collaborative groups and they will use the colorful markers to show their thinking. Our most difficult unit is our trigonometry standards and NASCO’s products will help me make the lessons interactive and fun. Lastly, when students take tests, I plan to use the privacy boards to help them keep their thinking and eyes to themselves.
My project will make a difference because students will gain a better understanding of trigonometry, practice academic discourse, be confident math students and respect for the tools provided to them.
Specifically, using the Apple TV we will have whole class academic discourse about student work, not just the answers. Students will know that they are learning because I will check their understanding on their whiteboards. They will be proud of their notes, online notes and their posters since they will be neat and colorful and it will be an equitable situation for all students in my class.
