My algebra students collaborate every day to understand the material taught to them. The students need space and flexibility to ensure collaboration can happen. These ninth-graders from Georgia are adjusting to high school life and being successful in their first year is crucial.
Every student deserves to feel that they are good at math.
My students are known to have struggled with math, and I find it my responsibility for them to feel successful when they leave my room. We work on changing their mindset and celebrate small victories. We encourage each other and help build confidence in a subject where my students have not felt confident before.
My Project
These seating options will help create a flexible opportunity for students to learn away from a desk. With foldable floor seating and a table and stool option, the students will feel like they have a choice as to where they can learn from. The organization of the calculators will hold the students accountable to look after their calculators. The dry erase page covers will allow the students to work collaboratively.
I am excited to watch this flexible seating turn into building confidence in the students' math abilities.
I am excited to watch these students take ownership of their education and allowing the freedom to learn from somewhere other than the desk. Students will feel as though from day 1, I am invested in their learning by providing a classroom environment that is warm and inviting.
