As a teacher, I've always wanted to build a classroom environment that will benefit each and every student. My students walk through the door every day excited to find out what we will be doing that day. These students are a very energetic and fun class who enjoy being able to move around the room and express their creativity. It is my goal to meet the needs and desires of all of these students and make my classroom a safe and enjoyable place that they will look forward to coming to for the rest of the year. This year I will be teaching dual language students and look forward to this new opportunity!
My Project
I would really like to have an Amazon echo to help set timers in the classroom. We have a lot of activities in second grade that are timed and it would be very convenient to say "Alexa, set a timer for 5 minutes!" I will be able to choose students by saying "Alexa pick a number between 1-22" for random grouping.
I would also use Alexa for the students to ask how to spell words.
Having a dual language class, these students can get a lot out of speaking out loud and often need help spelling words. Having another tool to assist these students would be very beneficial because if I am busy they can just ask Alexa. While they are writing they will be able to go over to Alexa while I am assisting another student and ask her how to spell a word they are struggling with.
During math they can ask her to check problems they are unsure about. During morning meeting we will be able to ask Alexa to tell us the weather. If students are feeling down or just need a pick me up they can ask Alexa to tell them a joke. If there is a question a student asks that I am unsure of the answer, I can ask Alexa and get that student an immediate answer!
I would also use the echo to play music during independent work. I added the flashlights because my students love reading with the lights turned off and using the flashlights to see!
