My Students
Thirty years ago, Apple was just a fruit. Fifteen years ago, Google was just a funny word. Did you know that over half of the jobs that current pre-kindergarten students will hold when they graduate high school in 2031 don't even exist yet?
I work as the computer lab teacher in a great, diverse, and effective school.
Here, we have a mix of students who live locally, within walking distance, and many others who travel by school bus, city bus, and private van service to come to our school daily.
We have general education classes, special education services, and students who have been identified as gifted and talented. Our students were born in this country or overseas. I teach every one of these boys and girls from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade on a weekly basis.
My Project
I am working on organizing our lending system of the laptops and iPads available to our students. Up to this point, we have used a sign-out sheet and the honor system.
In an effort to be much more organized and make it easier for students and teachers to see which devices are available to borrow, we need a barcode and scanner system.
Using the Fire Tablet with a scanning app to log devices in and out, we will be better able to track who has the device and how many are available at any given time for students to borrow.
Having a dedicated device (with protective case and screen cover), we will be able to circulate all of our current iPads and laptops, without having to hold one back from student use to use as a monitor of the lending system.
