I am starting my teaching career in a rural, Title I school that is 101 years old. My 19 second grade students come into class each day full of excitement, energy and eager to learn. They are ready to learn new things, new activities, and new strategies to help them grow as learners. Growing up in this community, I have seen firsthand the background my students come from. These students come from very diverse, low-socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students come to school to feel safe, loved, and eager to learn.
I want them to know that they have someone in their corner to fight for them. The kiddos that walk into my classroom each day have a heart for learning and ready to do their best.
My students' learning levels span from early childhood to above grade level. All these students need hands-on manipulatives and engaging activities to help them make learning concrete and adapt it to their unique learning style. My students are very creative and are willing to use the resources at their fingertips to make learning fun!
My Project
Integrating technology into the classroom is the norm of today's education. I would love my students to experience this and embrace a this type of technological device in our classroom- an Amazon Alexa Kids Edition.
The uses for an Alexa in the classroom are limitless, not to mention how the device can be used to enhance classroom instruction!
There are a variety of engaging ways to use Alexa in the classroom. For example, in math, Alexa can help students self-assess their work by checking their answers to math problems. Need to roll a pair of dice in a game, "Alexa, roll the dice." Students can ask Alexa about the weather, the human body, and more! Alexa would be a great addition, because it includes tools like Science News Headlines and Science Buddy as well as different kid-friendly characters and voices that the kids will LOVE.
