My students come from a variety of different backgrounds and many face challenges in and out of the classroom. My school is a Title I school in a low socioeconomic community. Despite the challenges, my students come to school with a positive attitude and work together to overcome obstacles and achieve goals. They love to collaborate and have class debates. Each one of my students has a unique perspective and experience that is important and contributes to our class discussions. My students are eager to learn and explore the world around them.
They inspire me every day.
The students will be using the Amazon Echo, aka Alexa, in small groups to practice their speaking and listening skills to ask questions while working on content standards. They can use the device to play word games that will expand their vocabulary. Additionally, they will be able to improve their listening comprehension through interactive "choose your own adventure" stories.
The Echo will be integrated across the curriculum.
Students can challenge it to math games to build math fact fluency. They can ask questions regarding science. They can use it for practice quizzes on various topics. We can start of day off with "This day in history" facts or kids news for current events. Essentially, we will use it to create a time machine and travel back in time to explore history.
Alexa will give my students many opportunities to investigate content within my classroom.
