Our learning community is populated by eager, energetic, and curious students. We have a wide range of reading abilities and an even wider range of intellectual interests. The challenge is in finding the reading material to meet the needs of this enthusiastic group.
These students yearn to know more about the world around them and engage with others about what they've learned.
In an ever-changing world, they are clamoring for the tools to make sense of it and make a difference.
My Project
Young adult readers can be caught between two worlds, still emerging as capable readers and yet drawn to the complexity of the adult world.
Named in honor of the pioneering young adult librarian Margaret "Alex" Edwards, the Alex Award honors books that will appeal to the young adult reader.
A small set of each of the latest award winners will provide opportunity for enriching literature circles and conversations not only about great writing but also about ideas that engage young adults who are ready to participate in the adult world.
In a changing cultural and media landscape, a book shared with peers that captivates the mind of a young person can have a profound impact on school and community engagement.
