Help me give my students a true Alaskan winter of fun. Sleds, mushing Alaskan dogs and enjoying the frosty bite of fresh, powdery, Alaskan snow. With sleds, we can have outdoor fun and centers for those cold days.
I am an Alaskan 4th-grade teacher. There are so many important things that Alaskan kids go without. There are so many special needs that we have here that we learn to go without because we also know what we need to survive as Alaskan residents.
Let's let our love show, and give these kids opportunities to have some of those things that other kids love and enjoy both inside the classroom and outside during our sunny but cold Alaskan recesses.
This project is merely for the love of our children that comes from homes that struggle to pay those everyday bills while giving their children the gift needed to have fun!
My Project
These materials will enable my students to learn and experience the true Alaska culture and environment. Alaska has a lot of activities and culture that happens outside. For example a huge part of my February and March Alaska history course is studying the Alaska Iditarod also known as, "The Great Race." This is an outdoor sled dog mushing race that covers both sledding, Alaska weather, and sled dogs. With sleds, we can create an elementary sled race, and show the kids just some of the outdoor factors that play a role in this historical happening. Sometimes the weather gets bitter cold and our children are unable to enjoy activities such as recess. With dodgeballs and paints, we can ensure that fun, healthy, and emotionally encouraging activities can still take place.
Alaska is a special and one of a kind place.
Let's teach our children how lucky we are. We get the opportunity to do activities outdoors that others do not. Let's hit the snow, sled some sleds, mush some dogs, and have some fun!
