My Students

My students have an extreme curiosity about plants and animals. My colleague and I teach two unique groups of kids (1st/3rd graders) that have this instinctual yearning to learn about the world around them. Everything is new and interesting for them; they have a LOVE of learning about their world.

Our students live in a rural interior town of the beautiful state of Alaska therefore they have limited exposure to the world outside their small town.

They attend a Title I school and the school is within a community that has limited resources. Regardless of the limitations of living in a remote area of Alaska, my students still want to learn about the world around them.

My Project

Our students will be immersed into the Alaska Sealife Center. They will participate in the Nocturnal program, which allows them to overnight at the Sealife Center. They will sleep among the sea lions, seals, sea otters, sea birds, and other animals at the Sealife Center!

Students will participate in several hands-on programs in which they will learn about the marine mammals and the sea birds special adaptations that they have to live in the frigid ocean on the coast of Alaska.

It will truly be a once in a life time experience for these rural, interior Alaskan students. They will always remember this awesome place-based field trip.
