ALA Youth Media Award Books in the Library

Help me give my students the American Library Association's Youth Media award books for 2020 so they can read outstanding books.

My Students

My students live in a small, rural, farming community. I have been their librarian since fall 2018 and we have had so much fun reading stories together. The students are creative and curious. Our town has about 1,200 people. Many students are from low income households, and thus are confined to the resources and experiences available right here in our homogeneous rural town. There is so much for them to learn about the world outside of our small town, and books are a way for them to expand their horizons.

My Project

My students live in a small, rural, homogeneous town. Many are from low income households, which means their families are not able to provide many (or any) experiences outside of their small window of the world.

I want to provide my students with the 2020 American Library Association's Youth Media Award books so that they have amazing stories from many voices.

We have some of this year's winners and honorees already, but not all. I want to give my students the books that have been deemed the best of the year. I want to support my students in learning about the world and other people's experiences of it through a love of literature.
