Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year was the first year for this elementary school. The school is a one-of-a-kind school community that strives to provide rigorous, engaging instruction that supports the unique talents, skills, and interests of each student. With both Classical and STEAM programs, teachers focus on teaching the whole child in an academically advanced environment and aim to create a community that promotes collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity while celebrating the diversity of the students, families, staff, and community.
Students at this school are high performing and high achieving individuals.
Their parents have enrolled them in our school because they want our school to help them instill the life skills and character traits that will support student success in high school, college, and beyond. As the P.E. teacher, I have made it my mission to inspire these students to be as knowledgeable, confident, and motivated physically as they are academically.
My Project
As a Physical Educator, I feel it is my job is to constantly motivate students to want to be active and to believe that they can improve their physical abilities. I plan to build their confidence and provide them with valuable goal setting opportunities through archery learning. I intend to do a unit on target games and include archery as one of the games. The very heart of archery is learning a step-by-step method for drawing a bow and shooting an arrow.
Even my Pre K student archers will quickly learn that by slowing down and focusing on one step at a time, they are more successful at putting arrows in the middle of the target.
When archers make mistakes, they are taught that the solution is to analyze their steps and focus on improving one thing at a time. This is a great mindset for archery, in the classroom, and in life.
