I am a teacher of 26 amazing first grade students. My students come from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Most of my students come from a two parent home with working parents and the support they need for success. While some of my students have only been in the country for a year. The diversity in the classroom brings about a community of learners and sweet friendships. I have wonderful students!
They are full of life and passionate with a desire to learn about the world around them.
My Project
All children are not cut out with the same cookie cutter. Each child learns and struggles in their own way. Students need tools to aid their individuality in order for them to grow as a learner.
Expecting a child to fit in the box will hurt them- acknowledge the way they learn and provide the necessary tools.
My students need sand timers, pencil grips, noise cancelling headphones, velcro, fidgets, and sensory cushions.
A handful of my students struggle with getting to work right away. Sand timers will encourage them to be responsible and get straight to work. Handwriting is a lost art and many students do not hold their pencil the correct way. This results in strained/ cramped hands, sloppy writing, and incorrect letter formation. Pencil grips will make writing become a joy not a painful activity. There are some students in my class who have ADHD or primary school wiggles. Fidgets and sensory cushions will help them stay focused. Velcro will also be put under their desks so their fingers can be stimulated quietly. Others have difficulty focusing with even the slightest noise, so noise cancelling headphones will help those students remain focused.
Please help provide the means for my unique learners to grow and accomplish everything to the best of their abilities!
