Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year I began a new chapter, teaching physical education full-time for the first time! I'm so excited to start a physical education program that has students moving the moment their time with me starts. The majority of our students come from low income families.
I'm particularly interested in introducing them to games and activities that they may not be exposed to otherwise.
Most do not have the opportunity to join sports programs outside of school. While our community has wonderfully maintained parks, basketball hoops are the only sport-based resource. I am hoping to build our resources a bit a time, so we'll continue to have a wonderful and interesting place to learn and be active.
My Project
These basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, hockey sticks and various equipment will help our students and their after school competitive sports league. They will give them sturdy equipment to replace some of the old worn-out versions of the same during team practices.
These resources would help revitalize our after school sports leagues and get more students interested in joining.
With new equipment, students would be more excited, more likely to join, and more likely to stick with our after school sports programs. We are hoping to start an after school hockey program, but need more resources to do so.
These materials would be used to practice during sports teams' after school programs. These resources may spark a love for a sport a student didn't know they loved yet.
