Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are full of energy and need an alternative to traditional desks. Imagine sitting in a classroom with hard plastic seats all day long. That's what my students have to endure day in and day out. The traditional style desk is not for some of my students. These students range in intelligence level from the highest of scores to the lowest of scores and come from a variety of backgrounds. The school is over 50% Hispanic and many students are not fluent in English.
What if I could create a learning environment that is an inviting and an engaging place to learn?
With the help of lap boards, bean bags, large rubber balls, high tables and stools, students will have plenty of options for learning.
My Project
How would you feel if you had to sit in hard plastic chairs for 6-7 hours a day? Students these days need to have the freedom to move around and sit in different seats. This kind of flexibility, will enhance student learning with in the classroom. Students will be able to work collaboratively on group projects while sitting in a bean bag chair or a wobble chair. They will be able to use lap desks to make it easier for writing.
Many middle school students need to move in order to think.
The wobble chairs will help these students. If they want to stand and do their work, students will have that option as well.
The use of bean bag chairs, lap desks, and wobble chairs will make learning more engaging. This will allow students the flexibility to move around and feel more comfortable in a classroom setting. This in turn will increase student performance.
