My students need a listening center, with a portable CD player, that will provide countless opportunities for listening to their favorite stories, as well as assist with literacy skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At the end of their bedtime story, my children would say, "Again! Again! Again!" If it were up to them I would read the same story three to four times a night. My students say the same thing at the end of our read aloud. The stories read in class capture their attention and imagination.
I teach at a Title 1 school where more than 80% of the students receive free lunch.
Most of my students come from low-income families and are English learners. They face many challenges, but continue to move forward. They are very curious first graders that want to make sense of the world around them. Some of my students are also new to the country, but are eager to learn something new every day. There is a great sense of responsibility in making sure their school experience is meaningful on a daily basis.
My Project
A listening center will allow them to hear their favorite stories over and over again. It will also be used to assist students with their reading skills and fluency. Listening to stories as they follow along in the book will not only capture their attention, but serve as a model of the spoken language.
We all remember our favorite stories from when we were young and how they inspired us.
Just imagine how much my students will be inspired by being able to listen to their favorite stories today.
