Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is divided into a population of native English speakers and native Spanish speakers. The program I teach is a two-way dual immersion model. What this means is that these little brains are learning how to speak, read and write in two languages simultaneously, English and Spanish!
I teach little bodies with gigantic, brilliant and resilient minds!
They surpass obstacles that many children their age aren't facing. They are tackling a language that isn't spoken at home while leaping over hurdles in their personal lives, as most come from economically disadvantaged homes.
My Project
My little kindergarten students, at the mere age of 5, come into a world of academic content taught in two languages. The materials I'm requesting will be used to reward their progress each time they get closer to their academic goals.
Motivation has been defined as: the psychological process that gives behavior purpose and direction (Kreitner, 1995).
The students I serve, live in one of the highest economically dissadvantaged neighborhoods in Dalls, TX. Motivation is scarce.
My hope is that by giving my students something tangible in return for their hard work, that they will develop a sense of persistance, through learning that hard work truly pays off. More importantly, that they are not boud to the circumstances they were born into.
