A few other teachers and I have decided to begin an after school club that will have students do small ten minute scenes that include poetry, duet, interpretation, story-telling and oratory. We are hoping to incorporate some music into the program as well. Students are excited about this as we have been telling them that the activity will begin. There is little or no theatre appreciation or after school activity in this high school. When I was in high school, I was so involved in theatre and activities that it has made me who I am. The group aspect, the analysis, the performance and the pride it builds makes me know that theatre activity opportunities are essential for a thriving school and thriving students. We need books. We need plays and anthologies of monologues and dialogues. We need poetry books. We need some simple costumes. We need a small amount of paint for a simple platform. We need wood for the platform. We need anything that will build out program. In the end, though we are still working out the details of the performance, we will have our show in the cafeteria in a cafe or ice cream social kind of style. Many parents and students will come, I am sure. This is so exciting for us and them. Please help out! We can even video tape this for you!
