This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Improving vocabulary and analyzation skills after school while making friends and building self esteem.
Our children attend a Title I elementary school in urban Georgia. They live in low-income housing with single parent/grandparent guardianships.
Our children are below the national norm in reading and language skills by two-three years because they do not have any guidance or support at home.
After school there are limited activities for the children to partake. Ultimately they end up hanging around the neighborhood causing trouble.
Offering the students an outlet after school where they can be safe from harm and learn at the same time is our solution to the obstacle.
Creating a Scrabble club that the students can join will build the students' confidence as they mature and build their language skills keeping them off the streets.
This confidence is the key to the students' survival and quest for independence as they become productive citizens.
Please help our children become successful, independent thinkers. Their success adds to our society in a positive way.
