My students need 7 Elegoo EL-KIT-008 Mega 2560 Project The Most Complete Ultimate Starter Kit w/TUTORIAL for Arduino UNO Nano. Students will use these kits to learn electronics and programming.
Over 75 % of the students in my Before and After School Program attend school from 7 AM to 5:30 PM. My students come from a low-income school, many of them come from single-family homes. These students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they always come in excited to participate in the many activities we have prepared for them.
My students are hungry for positive attention and, let me tell you, they deserve it!
My heart breaks knowing that some of these students have experienced so many traumatic events in their childhood that I can't even imagine going through in my adulthood. My heart is full when I see them persevere and grow both emotionally and academically. These students are my heroes! They love to move, learn, and most of all help others. We provide them with a positive and creative atmosphere to work on their character/self-worth and empower them to be the change. They are our future!
My Project
Next year, 2018-2019, the after-school program would like to use the Engineering is Elementary program to bring STEM adventures to our students. The focus will be on “Rockets, Rovers and Arduino UNO Nano's”. This unit is specifically designed for the after-school program and includes engineering design process, reading, writing, mathematics, and critical thinking skills need for the 21st century.

Students will use these kits to learn electronics and programming while teaching the students how to solve problems systematically . . . creating skills, optimism, and attitudes important for their futures. The Arduino platform gives students pre-wiring and free code libraries that will allow students the opportunity to concentrate on testing ideas, building supporting circuitry, and writing low-level code. It was designed to provide students a way to create applications which are important when developing 21st-century skills needed for our future generations.
We strongly believe that this program will challenge our students to grow both socially and academically while providing higher level challenges that will increase critical reasoning.
