My Students

My students are incredible. They love writing and exploring different types of stories. Whether they are writing science fiction, fantasy, or just about their own life. Some students love poetry while others just like to simply write. Most importantly, they are still trying to find themselves.

My students are in that phase of life where they are still exploring the world around them and learning about who they are.

They come from a wide variety of backgrounds. My classes are made up of students from all socioeconomic classes. I have students who come from well-to-do families and others who come from low-income homes. Most of my students speak English as a first language, while just over five percent speak English as a second language or don't speak it at all.

My Project

I host an afterschool Dungeons & Dragons club in my classroom. We started it last year and got more than 40 kids per day to show up. One of the biggest problems we have was limited resources. I only have a couple of the player guides and only one dungeon master's guide.

I want this group to grow so that kids have: a safe place to spend time after school, the opportunity to develop creatively outside of the classroom, a social group of like-minded people with which to develop social skills, the ability to explore the landscape of creativity and an opportunity to go on an adventure.

Additionally, some of the books I have on my list are in Spanish as well. I want my English language learners to have the same opportunity in the above group as my native speakers.
