Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my classroom, students are building higher level thinking skills when they have a chance to create, design, navigate, and collaborate with the use of technology. I teach digital literacy in an urban Kindergarten through 5th-grade school.
Every child deserves to have their needs met.
We receive Title I funding, and my students receive free breakfast and lunch to ensure that they have a meal to eat. For many of my students, school is the only place where they have hands-on experience with technology.
My Project
This club will offer the opportunity of a drama club through an artist residency program from a local professional theater company. This means that fifteen 2nd and 3rd graders will be introduced to performing arts with a professional artist at our school! This will be an opportunity that my students would not normally have access to outside of school because of the cost.
Not all students are interested in sports, some want to sing, dance and act!
These students will get to meet weekly to work on character development and analysis, interpret literature, compare and contrast, as well as develop public speaking skills.
Our club will conclude with a performance of an original play for the students' families and friends.
One of the most amazing things as an educator and parent, is to see a child light up when they find something they discover that they love doing. Help my students discover if performing arts is what lights them up.
