Hola, Ciao, Здравствуйте, Nǐ hǎo, and مرحبا are some of the ways students can say "Hello!" in my class. I am lucky enough to teach 29 students who ALL speak another language at home, in addition to learning how to read, write, and speak English in school.
Our class is like a box of crayons: everyone is different, but all differences are accepted and embraced.
They are smart, hard-working, caring first graders who love learning in different ways, including using songs, pictures, and hands-on materials.
My students are natural investigators. They love coming to school and asking questions. I love researching the answers with them and seeing their faces light up when things come to life.
My Project
Continuing to teach remotely was definitely a challenge - but a challenge that both myself and my students accepted and conquered! During this time, we've become much more tech savvy and I can't imagine not using some of the programs when we return to the school building.
Now that we've gone digital - I've seen my students shine even more by using various digital resources and apps.
We've gotten comfortable using apps like FlipGrid, Screen Castify, Google Classroom, Google slides, Buncee, Lalilo and more!
I'd love to give students the opportunity to continue to use these resources when we return to in-person schooling. I think it's so helpful and resourceful to use these apps as a resource for students to look back at whenever they need a refresher lesson, a little extra help, or want to add on to a peer's thoughts! - Many of my ELLs benefit from these types of supports and activities while they learn English and how to engage in meaningful conversations about various topics - I’ve seen and heard students talk about their favorite part in a book, explain how they solved a math problem, or talk about a connection they made while learning something new !
