My students are absolutely amazing kids! Really! They are a very diverse population: African-American, Arabic, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Native American, and several Slavic nationalities... many languages and dialects are represented. We are a true melting-pot population, which is approximately 750 strong. Because many of their homes are lead by a single parent, a grandparent, or a recent immigrant, 97% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch in our Title I school.
These children have a love for learning and just need the resources to help them succeed!
My 5th graders are ready to learn how to play their first ensemble instruments. They are excited and ready for this new adventure.
As we all know, Africa is rich in its history, culture and music. Our students are very eager to learn how to make the music come alive. They are learning how to read rhythms and play together as an ensemble.
Music from Africa brings the soul to life as you feel like you are part of it as you play.
African Tubanos are great instruments to learn on and easily portable to showcase our learning.
Being a school of almost 700 students, these instruments are durable and will last for many years to come. Won't you come play? Thank you!
