My Students
My students thoroughly enjoy music class! They practice new skills, encourage each other to try their best, and take great pride in their musical growth. Through unique musical experiences, they have had opportunities to become engineers, composers, instrumentalists, singers, mathematicians, world travelers, scientists, and lyricists.
The children are inquisitive, motivated, responsible, and highly respectful to each other as they learn about music.
They love the chance to be creative and to use humor when faced with challenges. Music is essential!
My Project
Children love to play instruments! My students need authentic African tubano drums in order to play the rhythmic patterns that accompany the songs and games for our unit. We will travel around Africa using our classroom map to learn the songs and games that native children enjoy.
As we learn about the music from other continents, having real instruments to accompany our songs and games enable my students to be fully engaged and learn the concepts faster.
Drumming is a tactile activity which provides a successful experience for all students, especially on an authentic instrument. It provides all students an opportunity to use critical thinking skills to perform rhythmic patterns using various hand positioning techniques.
