As a teacher in a low-income and high-poverty school, our students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, our students deserve exceptional learning opportunities and an extraordinary learning environment.
My students are creative, collaborative, and full of spirit.
They like to move. They love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of our classrooms, we focus on their potential and growth while they are with us.
With this requested Miracle-Grow AeroGarden Ultra and various seed pod kits, my students will be able experience hydroponics in action. By growing a garden full of healthy foods, they will also learn about healthy eating and incorporating fruits and veggies into their diets. Healthy eating takes information and planning and I will use the requested materials to help my students learn how to make healthy food choices.
My project is important because it will not only impact my students, but also their families.
Students will be encouraged to take small plants home to plant in their backyards or in pots on their patios. The seed starter kit I've requested will yield enough started plants to send home at least two with each student! Students will be able to pass on the lessons they've learned to younger siblings and impact even more young people.
