Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I remember growing up and absolutely loving books and getting lost in the adventure each story offered. This drove me to become a part of the tutoring buddy program at my elementary school. Finally, my passion for teaching and reading took flight and I became a teacher. Recently, I became a bilingual teacher in an urban district and hearing their excitement when reading our books reminds me of that passion that drove me many years ago. My students are inquisitive and eager readers who are craving to discover the adventures of their favorite story book characters.
My young learners are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.
The students in my class are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. As English language learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued. Our class library is an essential resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our lending library to borrow high-quality books. Each day students run to the lending library to go “shopping” for the next reading adventure. My students take such pride in the library and growing from one level to the next.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I continuously create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that are on their individual level and it will allow them to read independently.
