Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are inquisitive! They like to dig deep and test my knowledge on anything and everything! They are extremely curious about what the world has to offer. Imagine a group of kids who are an exceptional bunch of third graders. They are bright, funny, amazing storytellers and are extremely eager to learn. They are constantly asking me questions about things they read or hear. I teach at a Title 1 school where most of my kids come from poverty-stricken homes and do not have access to school supplies, let alone books or educational materials. More than 80% of my students are ELLs. Therefore, I have a wide range of readability levels in my classroom. I want nothing more than to fill my kids' minds with the answers to their questions. I hope to inspire them each and every day to continue to dig, discover, and learn. What better way than by giving them the resources they need to be able to do this?
My Project
My class is in need of some chapter book sets! My students are familiar with Charlotte's Web, as they have seen the movie, but most have never read the book. We have talked about how amazing books are compared to movies and now my students are really excited to start to read and compare! What more can a teacher ask for?!
It is an amazing thing to experience to watch imaginations grow from reading engaging chapter books!
My students not only get very involved with the characters, but they are learning more vocabulary, decoding larger words, and really start to develop a love for reading!
