I have the privilege of working with 20-30 creative, thoughtful, and imaginative second graders every year. We spend our days exploring and learning about everything from addition and subtraction to Chicago long ago, and everything in between. Each day my students enter my classroom excited to have a safe space where they can continue to grow.
The students in my classroom come from all over the world with varying experiences and backgrounds.
We use this diversity to learn from each other and engage in meaningful discussions about our world. Chicago is a wonderfully diverse city that allows my students to experience cultures from around the world right in their own classroom.
My Project
During second grade readers are beginning to build their fluency and comprehension to become more fluent readers. Readers are at all levels and excited to grow to their own fullest potential. They have a love of books that is only made better when they can read and discuss with a friend.
During book clubs my students read, discuss, and explore new stories and adventures together.
How do you pick out a favorite book to read? My students love to search through the newest titles and look for books that they can relate to. They also need engaging and interesting books to read at their level. These new books will help them practice their skills while fostering a love of reading.
