Every day is an exciting adventure being in a 4th grade classroom! I currently have 28 students in my class. Nineteen of my students are ENL learners. I co-teach with an ENL teacher for 90 minutes a day. Our classroom is grouped according to needs for all academic areas. We work together to help each child reach their potential in a warm and comforting environment. My students love reading! Throughout the year, along with reading in our reading groups, we also enjoy reading novels together as a class. Classic novels are chosen and read together as a class. My students love this time in our day! My students come to school excited to learn and take pride in their accomplishments. Many of my students speak Spanish at home and come from countries such as Honduras, El Salvador, Columbia, and Guatemala. It's exciting to see them blossom from month to month. I have the best job in the world!
My Project
Reading together is a special time for us in our classroom. In our classroom, many lessons are carried out in small group. Part of our day is set aside for coming together to experience adventure and to spark imagination to read a special novel. Each year, my class enjoys reading James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. We predict, infer, imagine, and create as we read this book together. Each year, I read this book to my students, however how wonderful would it be for each student to follow along in their own book? With a book of their own, my students will then be able to use their book as a reference when completing activities (predicting, inferring, and writing projects) that we complete throughout the reading of this book. They will be able to read this book with me.
