My students need high-interest and age-appropriate books to spark their love of reading. I will use "The Lightening Thief" and "Woodsong" as classroom novels.

My Students
My school is located in a rural area in a small town. My students are mostly coming from agricultural or blue-collar backgrounds. Even though we are a small school, our diversity is high. We have a high Native American population at our school along with children with an array of different backgrounds.
Academically, this district has struggled in the past, but we are making great strides in all areas over the last couple of years.
We are so proud of our kids and their achievements!
My Project
My students do not have a lot of access to books. Most of my students do not have books in their homes. The only library in town is our school library. Our school is an economically-disadvantaged rural school. I want to change that by giving my students more access to really good books.
By providing high-interest and age-appropriate books, I hope to grow their interest in reading.
I want to give them book experiences as a class that they will remember. "Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief" is a terrific book that ties in with their Social Studies curriculum. "Woodsong" is a wonderful adventure book that students just love. I will teach these books as classroom novels.
