The students in my classroom are kindergarteners. For most of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some are newcomers from different countries, and a lot of them are also English Language Learners. Being five and six years old they are very active. They love to move and learn. They have an incredible thirst for knowledge and are excited for new experiences and challenges. I try to challenge their thinking and learning as much as possible through whole group and small group instruction.
My Project
We have just started a new listening area in our classroom. My children are very delighted to spend time there reading but we have a limited amount of books on cds to keep this center very engaging.
Being able to have an array of audio books to listen to independently will increase my students excitement about reading.
My students will be able to sit in a quiet area of the room, actively reading a book and being able to take themselves into the story itself.
Listening to storybooks of their choosing will help students who are excited about learning how to read, my Ell’s who learning to speak English, and keep those who simply enjoy listening to stories engaged in learning.
