Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello. I'm a 4th grade teacher at an at-risk school in Las Vegas, NV. I have many students who are very interested in technology, but we have limited resources and computers for them. I have bright, inquisitive students who love to learn.
I am thrilled when a student comes up with a math strategy to solve a problem in a way I had never considered before, or comes up with a clever ending to a story they have written.
They keep my love of learning and joy of teaching growing year by year.
Many of them do not have access to technology at home, so they are dependent upon what we can provide them to use in the school setting. They really are motivated whenever they can get on a computer, iPad, or a ChromeBook. I hope to better prepare them to compete in this 21st century world.
My Project
In order to be competitive in today's tech savvy world, we need Chromebooks for the students to use in our classroom. After I teach my daily mathematics lesson, student complete their paperwork, and then can go on a Chromebook to receive additional instruction on that day's lesson as necessary. They can access as many examples and as much practice online as they need to in order to be successful. In addition, students who excel at that lesson, can go forward with more concepts and work at their own pace.
We want to utilize the Chromebooks for mathematics software to individually teach, monitor, assess, and reteach according to each students' needs.
Additionally, the Chromebooks can be used to develop keyboarding skills, test-taking strategies, and writing skills, as well as multiple kinds of other educational software. Students can create projects and reports as well.
