This project is for my K-3 gifted students. I want to give them the rigor and engaging material that they deserve.
This project will enable me to serve these students and target their interest areas ranging from communication, creativity, collaboration, science, geography, culture, critical thinking and reading while embracing their love of learning through discovery, play and inquiry.
This hard working group of students deserves to be challenged and met at their level of learning. These materials will enable me to do just that!
My Project
These materials will provide a unique opportunity for my K-3 gifted students during the school year to enhance reading comprehension and critical thinking skills with varying texts including literature, poetry, science, math and social studies.
The Jacob’s Ladder Reading Comprehension Program targets reading comprehension skills in high-ability learners by moving students through an inquiry process from basic understanding to critical analyses of text.
This field-tested method was developed by the Center for Gifted Education at William & Mary.
Using skill ladders connected to short stories, poetry, essays, and nonfiction, students move from lower order, concrete thinking skills to higher order, critical thinking skills. The ladders include multiple skills necessary for academic success, covering language arts standards.
