I work as a middle school literacy special education teacher in an urban school. I have students from all backgrounds and cultures. One thing that is consistent with all my students is that they all have learning disabilities or difficulties in some shape or form.
It is my personal goal to instill a lifelong love of learning into my students and to help them find ways to cope with having learning disabilities.
At the end of their year with me, it's my goal to have not only helped build their foundational skills but to have built their confidence with academics. All students CAN be successful, and my job is to teach that to my students.
My Project
I have many students who struggle with developing coping skills for their ADHD. I would like to increase the amount of tools and supports I can offer students, and that includes giving them a variety of options to try. My ultimate goal in my classroom is to allow my students to become as independent in their lives as possible, and that includes helping them learn what they need to be most successful in and out of classes.
We need fidget items, hand grips and exercise bands.
Not only will these tools helps my students focus in classes, but they will also allow some of my students to develop their fine motor skills in a way that is inclusive and fun.
