My students need additional read along books and a storage center to go with their BRAND NEW listening center!

Do you remember what it felt like when your teacher would have you sit on the rug with your other classmates and he or she would read your favorite story? This is a great part of my day, and I love seeing my students grab that very book I read to them, and read it independently.
My students are bright, eager children who love to read.
The looks on their faces are priceless when I say, "Go ahead, pick a book to take back to your desk" when we break up into our reading groups. I have been noticing that many of them reach for books they are interested in, but are unable to read those books without assistance. They would much rather read the books that they hear during our read aloud. Our school is a turn-around school, and was one of the lowest performing schools in the city less than three years ago. Within the past three years, the amount of progress we have made has been incredible, and these students come to school everyday wanting to learn. My students face challenges that some of us could never imagine, and struggle to read at a first grade level. To them, having a book read aloud is a huge deal!
My students have a passion for reading that you just cannot deny. I would love if they could read the books they want to read on their own, but unfortunately for some of them, they cannot do that yet. To be able to listen to the story they want to read, while being able to follow along in their own copy will help them become better readers! I wish I could sit with each of my 27 students and read to them individually, but the next best thing would be this listening center and the read along stories. Because of Donors Choose, my students will be receiving a new listening center, and I am hoping to fill that listening center with more read along books! The storage center would be beneficial because we do not have a ton of extra room to keep the listening center.
I cannot begin to imagine the looks on the faces of my first graders when they are able to find a story they love, pop the cd in the listening center and read along!.
The thought of them being able to pick out a book they have been wanting to read, and have it read aloud to them would make them so happy. These additional read alongs will help build their vocabulary, their fluency, and eventually their confidence. Thank you in advance for your help!
