This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In today's fast paced world, students need to be prepared not only to find jobs in the "real world" but to manage their money! One of the most important new graduation requirements is that students pass a course in Personal Finance. In this class, we do more than balance checkbooks!
My students are eager to enter the real world and apply the skills gained in school.
Our school is among the poorest in our district which is among the poorest in the state. I design my personal finance course with these statistics in mind to help overcome generational poverty.
My Project
In the past, we've made due with phone calculators and a set of basic calculators begged from the previous finance teacher. With our own class sized set of calculators, we'll be able to do more independent work.
In Personal Finance, we don't just balance check books. We calculate simple and compound interest to find the best savings account and steer clear of credit traps. We figure taxes and practice filing FAFSAs. We also figure personal and imaginary budgets.
All of these activities (and many more things we do) require a good, basic calculator!
The importance of Personal Finance cannot be stressed enough!
So many times we hear that students aren't leaving schools with enough practical skills to make it in the real world. A donation to this project will help ensure my students' success not just in school, but in life!
