Adding Technology To Our Classroom

My students need access to technology in our classroom to help supplement literacy and math units. My students need two iPads with protective covers

My Students

A typical class, whether in reading or math, has students working in small groups or 1-1 with my para or myself while the rest of the class works independently in centers. Since we are a new school, we have very little equipment. Many of our students will benefit from adding technology in our class.

I have some awesome 4th grade students!

Our school has a population of about 98% autistic children. Although I have small classes, (8-12 between Math and Language Arts), our days are rather hectic. In Language Arts alone I have 10 students ranging from pre-primer through 4th grade reading levels. Because our school is new this year, we have very little equipment. I do have two students who have personal iPads to use to accommodate their special needs, but all of my students would benefit from the use of an iPad: from using voice-to-text, accessing math facts, to researching a current science subject. We assess the improvements in our students often, but we need to use school-wide shared Chromebooks. Scheduling around others causes delays in the assessments and having our room equipped with iPads would allow for on-the-spot assessing. Thank you for helping equip our classroom with iPads.

My Project

My students have wonderful imaginations. They have produced some wonderful stories through dictation. When they need to stop and write, their stories become 2-4 word sentences and only 3-4 sentences long. Many of my students have pre-primer to 2nd grade reading skills. Their writing skill are often at the same level. My students need two iPads with protective covers. Using the dictation feature of the iPad will help them see what they are writing. There are so many wonderful apps available that will benefit many of the students as they work on their reading and math skills.

Anything that we can provide for our students will benefit them in the future.

Having access to technology will make a major difference in the atmosphere of our classroom. Adding this technology to their daily schedule will benefit them many times over now and as they proceed in their education.
