Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am the proud teacher of 28 school-loving kindergarten students. Each morning they arrive eager to start their day and are abuzz with the new things that we are going to learn. There is a love of learning from the moment they arrive!
My school is located in a multicultural area of Philadelphia. A percentage of students are learning to speak English for the first time. It is a low-income area of the city and students often come to school with little to no resources provided by the school district. However, my students never see that as a barrier to their learning and are always motivated to do their best.
My Project
Kindergarten students need a lot of opportunities to work with their hands to do their very best learning. Online learning has created a challenge for this.
One activity that really helps my students to stay engaged and have home feel more like school is making art projects that go with some of the great books we read together. This construction paper will help us to continue to do that as long as virtual learning continues.
I will cut and package the paper for each student to pick-up and use while we are learning online together. During our virtual sessions, we will read great books, learn about their characters, and create wonderful project so we can remember them forever.
