I teach a 4th grade class with diverse educational levels and abilities. Over half of my class of students come from lower economic homes. This class is starting to progress and grow their reading skills. I have a mix of students at a variety of levels.
Fifty-five percent of my students have started the year below benchmark levels in reading.
This is a lower class than many I have worked with. They need time reading texts that they are motivated to read.
Our class is working very hard at making growth as we redo our curriculum pieces to focus more on non-fiction. My 15 boys and 10 girls are excited for new opportunities to read! I love these students but they need opportunities to love books!
My Project
Replacing ancient books has been a goal of my fourth grade class. My 25 students and I created a list of books that students wanted. This list of books top their favorite and immediately increase reading motivation. In the past my library has had ancient copies of decent books, but needs newer, exciting editions for all students to be able to read, including those that struggle. As a class we are excited for this change (I even updated my library with tubs by reading genres to help them connect to books). Please help us achieve our reading excitement for the year!
