I teach children with varying exceptionalities, such as specific learning disabilities, autism, vision impairment, and cerebral palsy. My students are at least two grade levels behind their same-age peers.
We are a Title I school, which means many of the children come from impoverished backgrounds.
They have parents who have many challenges. Many students are part of the Hunger Project, which helps feed them on weekends.
In my room, the students are able to work on their level and at the pace they need. We are trying to ensure that they get the most out of their education.
My Project
My students have many challenges in their academic day.
They have little confidence in their abilities and, therefore, have trouble with independent work.
We try to limit the amount of work they do independently, but we only have 2 adults to 9 very needy students. There are times when students have to work in small groups without a teacher. These games will provide them with a task to do that is fun yet academic. The Pop and Add math game for 1st and 2nd-grade skills will benefit almost the entire class. The magnetic regrouping chart and allowance game will be used for the higher students, while the Sequencing of Numbers will help the ones with PreK to emerging kindergarten skills.
