My classroom is an exceptional children's Pre-K located in a public school. Our county is very small rural community. My classroom is a self contained classroom, serving students from ages three to five years old. Every student has some type of identified need, which requires intervention services, often in several areas. Every student my classroom has an IEP with personalized goals. Students enter my classroom all year, as children transition from early intervention to school services on their third birthday, and they do not have to wait for the next school year.
My Project
Preschoolers are naturally creative little people who enjoy experimenting with color, texture and self expression. Art often provides children with an outlet for self-expression and teaches self-regulation. Having various types of materials available makes it possible for children to experiment and make comparisons about materials. For preschool children, scribbling and drawing are wonderful ways to develop future skills. Scribbling and drawing build hand strength, provide practice with holding writing utensils and provide practice in developing hand control for future writing activities. Having crayons in different sizes, as well as markers, coloring pencils, and twistable crayons also provides differentiation for students.
