My students attend the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf housed on our campus in Texas.
Most of our students are bused in from surrounding school districts to attend our specialized deaf education program.
We offer services ranging from certified deaf education teachers, deaf-blind services, interpreters, interveners, audiology, speech therapy and much more! Many of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Hearing loss among my students ranges from mild to profound. Our students use hearing aids, cochlear implants, or nothing at all; some sign only, others voice only, some do tactile sign (signing hand-over-hand, and many do total communication (signing/voice at the same time). We do it all!
My Project
My students enjoy learning about history through project-based learning activities.
They need paint and brushes to add a splash of color to their dioramas of scenes from the book Coco (also a hit movie).
My students are clever and love to learn. They will also be filming themselves signing in front of a green screen using the Do Ink app on our iPads. They'll be able to change backgrounds to match what/where they're signing about! They're going to love having a real collapsible green screen and not the "not-so-great" green paper that we tried to use (somewhat unsuccessfully). It was a learning experience and now we know that a real green screen is needed.
